Our Facilities

Our Facilities

Our school is located on two sites, our main site on Meadowside and houses young people up to Year 11, spread across two departments; Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and our Sixtih Form young people are housed on our Thornhill site a short walk away from our main site.

All young people have access to a range of facilities onsite and offsite in the local community, community engagement is a key part of our curriculum and young people regularly access community facilities.

The majority of students travel to and from the Academy on transport provided by the Local Authority, however growing numbers of students are becoming independent travellers through our nationally recognised Independent Travel Training Programme.

Our main site provision includes 17 classrooms, 2 specialist sensory rooms, a multi-cordination room, a sports hall, gym, a rebound hall, specialist teaching rooms for Science, D&T and Food Technology and a café area.

Our Sixth Form provision incorporates 6 classrooms, a common room, a sensory/chill out space as well as an independent food preparation area to support students in developing their independence skills.

Our specialist therapies suite is housed within a building which was previously used as ‘the caretaker’s bungalow’ and is used by our SALT, OT and behaviour manager for specialist interventions.

Our external grounds at the Academy are vast and incorporate a large forest school area, climbing boulders, multi-use games area (MUGA) outdoor classroom with fire pit, outdoor play equipment.

Students also have access to peripatetic music tuition through external services.

Forest School

Situated at the rear of the main school building, the forest school site provides a great learning environment for engaging young people in the outdoors, developing emotional intelligence and resilience. The focus on sessions is for young people to learn through play and develop skills through learner led activities. This helps promote self awareness, self regulation, communication skills and self esteem. Sessions include elements of bush craft, play, games, using tools, art work and campfire cooking.
