PSED

At Ash Trees Academy, we deliver a tailor made PSED curriculum to meet the varied needs of each of our pupils. PSED is a core subject through which our pupils develop the knowledge, skills, self-confidence and self –awareness to build positive relationships, manage their physical and mental well-being, and engage in the wider world as best suits their individual needs and interests as they prepare for adult life, becoming citizens who can access the community and all it offers.   We promote the development of self-esteem and resilience, through practical strategies supporting pupils to make independent choices and resist inappropriate pressure. This follows our school procedures of using Zones of Regulation and Emotion Coaching to be able to label and realise our feelings, why we feel this way and what we can do to support ourselves. We learn how to stay safe independently and also focus on E-Safety and how to stay safe online in the digital age.

RSE Policy

Our ‘PSED Curriculum’ is delivered within a three year cross-curricular format, utilising a termly theme as a ‘starting point’ and taking into account the interests that motivate our pupils. Communication is our key stone with pupils supported by visual symbols, signs and alternative communication aids as needed, as they learn to build positive relationships and develop the confidence and skills to communicate  preferences and ideas.  Pupils are supported to accept change, delay and consequences as they learn to communicate and manage their feelings and behaviour.

Please see our Long Term Plan for more information on topics covered in school.
