Phonics

At Ash Trees we use the Read, Write Inc validated phonics scheme to teach pupils to read using synthetic phonics where they are ready.

Pupils are taught individually or in small groups, learning to read at a pace which is appropriate to their own level of development.

For pupils working below this level, Ash Trees has a pre-phonics curriculum document in place which aims to develop the fundamental sound discrimination skills which pupils require to begin developing phonological awareness.  Please see the attached document with ideas as to how you can support your child.

If you’d like to know more, please feel free to speak to our Reading Leader, Danielle Briggs.
