Our Academy

Ash Trees Academy is a specialist primary school catering for pupils aged between 4 and 11 years, who have a learning difficulty, which may include profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and/or pupils who have a diagnosis of autism. We are based in Billingham and provide specialist provision for pupils from across the Stockton-On-Tees borough.

Ash Trees is a split site establishment, which currently has 20 classes spread across the two sites. Our Rievaulx Avenue site is the main provision for pupils starting with us in EYFS (Reception) and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2). While our Bowes Road Site (Main Site) caters for pupils within Key Stage 1 (Year 2), but predominantly Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6), depending on numbers. We currently have around 170 pupils on roll across both our sites.

Bowes Road Site

Bowes Road is the main site and provides specialist provision for the majority of our pupils between the academic years of 2 and 6. There are currently 13 classes on site. All classes are named after colours.

Some of the facilities on site include:

Sensory Integration Room

Our Sensory Integration room has the equipment required to support pupils to be regulated and ready to learn.  Whether it’s bouncing, squashing, swinging or crashing, we have all of the equipment required to support the needs prescribed in a child’s individual OT plan.

Light & Sound Room

Soft Play

Our soft-play spaces are a great place for children to meet their sensory integration needs, access the trampoline for Rebound Therapy (Bowes Road) and to develop all important play skills.  It’s also a fantastically motivating form of exercise, not to mention fun!

Rievaulx Site

Rievaulx Avenue is just around the corner from our main site on Bowes Road. It is the site that caters for the youngest pupils in the school. We currently have 7 classes on the site, catering for around one third of our pupils. All classes are named after woodland animals.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is based on this site and is able to caters for Reception aged pupils. We also have provision for pupils in Key Stage 1 on this site.

When a pupil starts with us on Rievaulx Site we aim to keep them on the site for a minimum of 2 years before moving them over to the main site on Bowes Road, to ensure stability and continuity for the pupil.

Some of the facilities on site include:

Library

Our library provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to explore books as well as being a functional and welcome meeting place for parents, carers and professionals.

Soft Play

Immersive (Light & Sound) Room

Our multi-sensory rooms provide a learning environment to support the needs of learners who have a sensory impairment and to teach our children the skills of cause and effect.  It also provides a calm/relaxing space for our learners.

Ash Trees at Billingham South

Ash Trees at Billingham South is a satellite provision, based on the mainstream site of Billingham South Primary School. This provision offers a specialised, semi-formal curriculum with an Ash Trees team of colleagues, for pupils aged 5 to 11 years old, with a primary need of cognition and learning. Pupils will access social opportunities with their Billingham South Primary peers during break times, lunch times and some allocated lessons.
